Reflection

Creating this introductory video for my minicourse allowed me to provide students with a welcoming overview of the course, introduce myself, and review essential course instructions. It aligns well with the course learning objectives, ensuring students are informed on course expectations and access essential guidance they may have missed in email instructions.

Meeting accessibility standards was straightforward, thanks to YouTube’s built-in tools. YouTube automatically provides closed captions, making the setup process seamless and enabling me to ensure the video is accessible to all learners with minimal effort. This feature was particularly valuable for maintaining inclusivity within the course.

Using Canva for the video creation had its ups and downs. While Canva is user-friendly for designing visuals and layouts, the challenge came when trying to incorporate animations. Half of my time was spent troubleshooting why animations wouldn’t play correctly upon download, and ultimately, I opted to add background music instead of animations to keep the video engaging. Murph AI for the voiceover was a breeze to use and allowed me to create a professional-sounding narration quickly. Despite my inner perfectionist wanting to start over with a different software, I finally set a time limit for the project to keep it practical. In the future, I might explore alternatives like Adobe Spark or Camtasia for more control over animations while maintaining ease of use.
