Reflection
Developing a minicourse using storyboards and Articulate Rise 360 was a process that emphasized thoughtful planning and creativity. The interactive module fits within the course, as it aligns with the instructional goal of helping learners understand the basics of nutrition. It is a building block which is necessary for the next lesson and upcoming module. The specific learning objectives addressed by the lesson are TLO 1: Learners will be able to identify the core principles of nutrition, and the ELO 1.1 Define key macro and micronutrients and their functions in maintaining health (and Sub-ELO 1.1.a and 1.1.b).
To ensure engagement, I incorporated 2 real-life situation activities that take place offline and activities within the course like drag-and-drop exercises for identifying nutrients. In addition, there is an optional LIVE Zoom meeting. These interactivities foster active learning and encourage learners to reflect on their learning. I chose these forms of interactivity because they are intuitive, encourage engagement, and align with adult learning principles by promoting autonomy and problem-solving.
Articulate Rise 360 proved to be an excellent authoring tool for this project. Its user-friendly interface and pre-designed blocks allowed me to build a visually appealing, responsive module without extensive technical knowledge. However, customizing beyond the default options may be challenging for those without prior experience
Alternatives I may explore in the future include Adobe Captivate and Storyline 360. Captivate is more complex but seems to have greater flexibility in customization and advanced interactivity using other Adobe products. Storyline 360 provides a middle ground with more robust features than Rise 360 but a slightly steeper learning curve. I have extensive experience with Storyline, but limited experience in Captivate. Exploring this tool may help refine the interactivity and visual appeal of future projects.
Overall, this experience reinforced the importance of using a storyboard to align content with learning objectives and leveraging the right tools to create an engaging, learner-focused experience. The process was both rewarding and insightful, providing a solid foundation for future e-learning development.
